Do you want to advocate for languages on a national level? The MIWLA Language Advocate Grant supports the attendance of one MIWLA member at JNCL-NICLS’ Language Advocacy Day. This event brings together delegates from around the country to brief them on federal legislation affecting language education and the language enterprise, and arranges meetings with their Senators and congressional Representatives on Capitol Hill to advocate for this legislation. More information on JNCL-NICLS Language Advocacy Day. Applications are due by November 15.
This fund was established by Dr. Julie Foss during her tenure on the MIWLA Board from 2013-2025. She personally secured funding to send Michigan teachers to JNCL-NCSSFL Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C., ensuring that educators from our state have a voice in national policy discussions. The MIWLA Executive Board officially renamed the grant to honor Julie’s dedication and continued support of advocacy in our profession.
